Who should complete it?
Pulse is designed for data and technology leaders who want an initial view of their organisation's capabilities and controls. It is focused on Australian-based organisations, with questions tailored to the Australian regulatory obligations that may apply to your organisation.
It is useful when you are:
- Planning a data or AI initiative and want to understand the dependencies.
- Reviewing whether your controls have kept pace with AI adoption.
- Preparing priorities for a strategy, budget or governance discussion.
- Deciding whether a specific concern warrants a deeper assessment.
Some questions may need input from security, risk or privacy colleagues. You do not need every answer: choose "don't know" where visibility is limited.
What it covers
Data foundations
Are ownership, quality, metadata and architecture supporting the outcomes you want to achieve?
Twenty questions aligned to DCAM v3.1 and covering the DAMA-DMBOK2 knowledge areas.
Security for data and AI
Are access controls and security practices keeping pace with how your organisation uses data and AI?
Seven questions mapped to CPS 234, the ASD Essential Eight and OWASP guidance for LLM and agentic applications.
Incident reporting readiness
Do you understand the obligations that may apply, and are responsibilities and reporting processes clear?
Five questions covering notifiable data breaches, CPS 234, CPS 230, SOCI and the Cyber Security Act 2024.
AI readiness, governance and operations
Does your organisation have the foundations, accountability and controls to use AI effectively?
Nine questions examining readiness, governance and operations, including how your AI footprint compares with your controls.
A look inside
Explore sample screens from a fictional organisation.
Your starting position: four capability scores and a personal note from the reviewing consultant. Where to focus: capability gaps and indicative targets to discuss in the context of your organisation. Questions you can answer: specific response options, plain-English explanations and a “don’t know” option.
A report you can use to move the conversation forward
Receive a shareable report that helps you explain where attention is needed and why. Your report includes:
- An initial capability profile: scores and maturity indicators across the four assessment areas.
- Your five improvement priorities: what the findings suggest, their potential business implications and a practical first step.
- Visibility gaps: unanswered questions kept distinct from reported capability weaknesses.
- Regulatory considerations: obligations that appear relevant to your organisation and reporting timeframes to confirm.
- A starting point for further investigation: what remains unverified, what evidence would help and which decisions a deeper review could support.
- An optional 30 to 45 minute walkthrough: discuss the findings and identify an appropriate next step.
Use it to support a case for targeted investigation. A full investment business case will require validated evidence, costs, benefits and delivery options.
How to interpret your results
Pulse provides an initial view based on your responses. Scores are indicators of reported capability, rather than verified assurance or an industry benchmark.
Relevant maturity depends on your organisation's objectives, complexity and exposure. A lower score helps identify a question to investigate. It does not automatically justify investment.
"Don't know" responses highlight limited visibility. They may indicate a need to consult another owner, clarify accountability or check supporting evidence.
How it works
- Step 1
Introduce your organisation
Provide your work email, role and company details. Confirm your email address to access the assessment and return from another device.
- Step 2
Set the context

What comes next?
Your results help identify the smallest useful next step. That could be an internal action, a targeted review or a broader assessment. Where further support would help, we can discuss:
Data Health Check
Investigate quality, ownership or lineage concerns affecting a critical dataset or workflow.
AI Assurance Review
Examine governance, controls and evidence around your AI deployments.
AI Value Workshop
Connect opportunities to business outcomes and develop priorities using the AI Strategy Canvas.
Data & AI Assessment
Validate wider capability gaps and develop a prioritised roadmap.
Production Readiness Review
Assess whether an AI application or agent is ready for dependable operational use.
Scope and your information
Pulse is a self-reported initial diagnostic. We do not verify your answers or inspect documents, systems or controls. It is not a certified DCAM assessment, security assessment or penetration test.
Regulatory findings are general information, not legal advice, and have not been reviewed by a lawyer. Confirm applicable obligations with your legal adviser.
We use AI to help draft your report, followed by consultant review. The drafting step receives scores and categories, excluding your name, email, company name and free-text answers. Our AI provider may process data outside Australia.
Give your next investment a clearer starting point.
